Dave Deschamps, CFP®

Wealth Manager & Widows Practice Group Leader

Why did you choose to be part of the BDF team?

I chose to join BDF because of the team culture and the passion to serve clients.  It was important for me to join a firm in which my values and the firms were aligned, and I see it play out every day at BDF.  One of our Core Values is “Always Do the Right Thing,” and I find that to be very meaningful in the work that we do with clients, and also with other BDF team members.

What skills or characteristics make you uniquely qualified for this work?

I believe that the most important trait we must have in wealth management is an ability to listen.  Once I know what’s important to our clients and what they want to accomplish, I can then discuss with them potential paths to successfully getting there.  It’s important that it starts with listening, and then provide solutions – and not the other way around.

What is the one thing you wish every person knew when making financial decisions?

Every person must consider their own unique circumstances when making decisions and not compare it to others.  Each of us has our own personalities, viewpoints, and emotions toward finances, and we should not use others as a benchmark.

Where can we find you when you’re not working?

When I’m not working, you can find me with my wife and two sons in Glen Ellyn.  During the summer, we like to go up to Wisconsin and visit family as much as we can, and we enjoy being outside.

What does “Helping people make sound decisions to enjoy a full life” mean to you?

In order to make sound decisions, the first step is understanding and education.  I believe that when our clients have a clear understanding of the implications of their choices, they can then discern which direction to choose that aligns with their own personal goals and aspirations.  Also, this is an ongoing and ever-evolving process which must continually be evaluated.
