Tina McMorris Barrile CFA®, CFP®

Wealth Manager

What inspired you to choose wealth management as a career?

Wealth management combines my love to learn, with my compassion for people.  The constant flux in the markets, economy, and tax and estate laws, gives me the mental challenge I seek while helping people be able to sleep better at night, satisfies my desire to make a positive impact.  I am thankful for the trust I earn from clients, who know with confidence that their financial situation is being watched over, and that they have a partner by their side.

What does “Helping people enjoy a full life” mean to you?

A good portion of our lives are spent working hard, making sure we save enough to support our family and accumulating sufficient funds to make it through retirement.  The ultimate goal to me, however, is to be able to help clients enjoy the fruits of their labor; to find their purpose and passion, and live their life to its fullest.  For some, this means spending more time with family, or extensive traveling.  For others, a full life might mean giving to charity or having an impact on something near and dear to their heart.

Why did you choose to be a part of the BDF team?

I found BDF team members to be down to earth, extremely caring, and collaborative.  It is a culture that I do not take for granted and am thankful to be a part of.  In addition, BDF’s deep bench of knowledge and expertise in house, allows me to improve upon and be more thorough, in my advice to clients.

What skills or characteristics make you uniquely qualified for this work?

I humbly am thankful for the trust my clients have in me.  I keep their stories and finances in confidence, with no judgment.  This comfort level allows me to make more informed and appropriate recommendations when it comes to estate planning, retirement savings, and other financial planning areas.  My clients truly feel how much I care about them and know I will only do what is in their best interest.

Where can we find you when you’re not working?

When I am not working, you will find me spending quality time with my kids.    I enjoy cheering them on at their games, competitions, and recitals, but equally as important to me is time spent together as a family.  You will also find me kickboxing (cardio, not in the ring!) and enjoying other forms of fitness.

Tina comes to BDF with 15 years of prior experience as a financial advisor and planner.  For her clientele, Tina not only researched and chose the individual investments but took care to analyze all aspects of the client’s finances and risk protections.  Coupled with understanding the client’s goals, Tina could tailor her recommended strategy.  Her extensive involvement with people from all walks of life, and at varying stages in life, allows Tina to think of the big picture when working with clients.  She feels a holistic approach is the best way to help clients achieve their objectives.

Before helping individuals with their personal finances, Tina worked in corporate finance for 7 years for Sara Lee Corporation, RR Donnelley, and in investments at State Farm Insurance.  While Tina could successfully forecast and evaluate the financials at these companies, she was not fulfilled.  This led her to pursue advising individuals, where she could use her financial expertise, but also make a positive impact in the world.  She found her true passion in becoming a wealth manager.

Tina attended Illinois Wesleyan University, majoring in International Business, and with minors in both Spanish and Japanese.  During college, she spent a summer interning in Tokyo for Mizuno Corporation, and a summer attending the University of Buenos Aires in Argentina.  In 2000, Tina became a holder of the right to use the Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA) designation, and in addition, earned the Certified Financial Planner® designation in 2008.  She is a member of the CFA Institute.  Tina furthers her financial education by attending conferences, listening to professional speakers, and reading.

Outside of work, Tina coaches Girls on the Run at the local elementary school.  This impactful national program inspires girls to recognize their inner potential, gain confidence, and appreciate fitness.  She is also a member of the PTO, and for the last 8 years, has coordinated the all-day schoolwide celebration day.
